The major tourist attraction and the most spectacular sight of Ljubljana is certainly Ljubljana Castle. There is proven evidence that the hill on top of which it is situated was inhabited back in the 12th century BC. The first known fortification of considerable dimensions settled on the top of the Castle Hill was built in Illyrian and Celtic times.

Ljubljana has preserved evidence of all the five millennia of its history, including also the remains of the Roman city of Emona and the old city centre with its medieval castle. In 2014 Ljubljana celebrates 2,000 years of Emona, hosting events and experiences aimed to evoke the atmosphere of Roman times.

The conference was held in the Grand Hotel Union Business, which is the largest hotel conference centre in Ljubljana, located in the city centre, and in vicinity of major historical and cultural attractions. The Grand Hotel Union held its grand opening in 1905. It was the first modern hotel in Ljubljana and at the time the highest building, built in Art Nouveau style. The hotel was built in unbelievable 18 months and the opening ceremony lasted for 7 days. The hotel is located where the Baroque part of the city ends and the more modern Art Nouveau part begins. Due to its 100 metres long facade and a complex iron roof, it is considered to be a great architectural achievement. The hotel is also featured in the #1 New York Times Bestseller ‘1,000 Places to see before you die’.

Other significant bits in the mosaic of Ljubljana are its picturesque bridges across the river Ljubljanica. Triple Bridge, as a particular one, is made up of an old stone bridge from 1842 and two side ones added in 1931, providing an unique entrance into the Old Town.
